Circus Saturday

This is the latest art print I have created. I have been toying with the idea of a circus theme, but really didn't want something conventional and stumbled upon these great photos of Middle Eastern architecture which inspired me.
I particularly like the aqua tones in this print, I think I will be in an "I Love Aqua" phase for a while.

Gandhi’s Top 10 Fundamentals for Changing the World

The last couple of months I have been heavily immersed on a spiritual journey. I have been fortunate enough to find teachers and people in my life who have lifted me, encouraged me and allowed me to discover the person I truly am. Through life coaching, Naam Yoga and spiritual work, I have finally found my way.

Once you begin to wash away the dirt that covers your body and soul, you will never be the same. I know it sounds cliche, like a self-help book quote but it is entirely true.

The journey allows you to discover your true self, without external distractions, without labeling yourself as a projection of society's thoughts of perfection, it simply allows you to breathe, go deep inside your soul, be quiet, still and listen, listen to every heartbeat and every yearning that resides there.

All those feelings, emotions, fears that are suffocating you at every turn, everyday of your life. Those are the hardest ones to get rid of, but everyday you listen, everyday you sit still, everyday you mediate and chant, you release pieces of yourself that are no longer beneficial.

You release negative thoughts, patterns, behaviors, even people who are no longer serving you or who have already served their purpose in your life simply walk out of it.

I thought there was ONE person in particular that I could not let go of- the person who for four years I spent my energy and thoughts on hoping that he would somehow realize that I was "the one". Through this 10 month journey, I was able to break free- let him go, like a child losing their coveted balloon. There were tears, there was pain, but without the rain, their is no rainbow.

When I came across this article today, I realized that the fundamentals which Gandhi speaks of have been the basis for my transformation. I still have a long road to walk, but I will be guided by these principles.

1. Change
“You must be the change you want to see in the world.”
“As human beings, our greatness lies not so much in being able to remake the world – that is the myth of the atomic age – as in being able to remake ourselves.”

2. Control.
“Nobody can hurt me without my permission.”

3. Forgiveness
“The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.”
“An eye for eye only ends up making the whole world blind.”

4. Action.
“An ounce of practice is worth more than tons of preaching.”

5. The present moment.
“I do not want to foresee the future. I am concerned with taking care of the present. God has given me no control over the moment following.”

6. Everyone is human.
“I claim to be a simple individual liable to err like any other fellow mortal. I own, however, that I have humility enough to confess my errors and to retrace my steps.”
“It is unwise to be too sure of one’s own wisdom. It is healthy to be reminded that the strongest might weaken and the wisest might err.”

7. Persist.
“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”

8. Goodness.
“I look only to the good qualities of men. Not being faultless myself, I won’t presume to probe into the faults of others.”
“I suppose leadership at one time meant muscles; but today it means getting along with people.”

9. Truth
“Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.”
“Always aim at complete harmony of thought and word and deed. Always aim at purifying your thoughts and everything will be well.”

10. Development.
“Constant development is the law of life, and a man who always tries to maintain his dogmas in order to appear consistent drives himself into a false position.”

Mad about Mid Century Modern

Source Mbibelot

As a creative you are always looking for inspiration. Lately, I tend to find myself mulling over everything and anything Mid Century Modern! I particularly am fascinated by vintage patterns, colors and styles from the Scandinavian countries. My love for these countries comes from my travels to Sweden and Denmark. I truly admire and appreciate their simple, streamlined designs and graphic elements with pops of color.

If you've visited my shop lately, you'll see that my latest prints are rooted in a retro-modern style. I am currently inspired by all things mid century and these are a few of my favorite inspirations!

Wonderful Wednesday- It's All About Gratitude!

Source: None via Dannibeth on Pinterest

I came across the image via Pinterest.
This powerful and beautiful image is linked to a story published by the San Francisco Chronicle last December regarding a female humpback whale who became entangled in crab traps and lines. A fisherman spotted the struggling whale near the Farallon Islands (outside the Golden Gate Bridge) and alerted the Marine Mammal Center who gathered a team of divers.

After assessing the situation, the team realized the only way to save the endangered humpback was to dive into the water and cut the ropes.

After hours working away at the ropes, she was freed and the divers say she began swimming around in circles. In gratitude, the humpback swam to each diver, nuzzled him and then swam to the next one.

What a beautiful story about gratitude, compassion and kindness! Imagine if today, we were grateful for everything and everyone in our lives, compassionate and kind toward everyone we met. Would it be a smoother, stress-free and easier day for everyone?

I am grateful for today. What are you grateful for?

Busy As A Bee....

Hello Lovelies!

I hope you are all doing great. It's been a while since I have written and to be honest, I am pressed for time these days. January has been one of the busiest months ever, between my newly found part-time job, my online school courses, freelance projects and creating new items for the store, I am sleep deprived to say the least. Caffeine has become a new friend of mine, wearing it's shiny dark caramel color dress and sugary temperament, I am hooked.

As I write this, I feel the fairies of slumber casting their spell on me and I want a nap, but I must resist their charming temptations for I have to get ready to go to a hockey game tonight and have to be alert in case a puck comes flying towards me or for that matter a very handsome, single hockey player!!! A girl can dream :)

The most exciting news I have is that my artwork has been featured in a few treasuries during the last couple of weeks, which I will post shortly. I am so excited to have my work featured by fellow Etsyians and I am so psyched about treasuries, I would like to try produce one.

For now, I will leave you with a few images/quotes that have sparked my inspiration and imagination these last couple of days!

Wishing you a Brilliant weekend wherever you may be in this Big, Bright World!!
