Happy New Year 2011!

In just a couple of hours 2010 will come to a close and a new opportunity will be granted to us all. 2010 has been fantastic and I am grateful for everyday, everyone, every experience and emotion that it brought me. It has been 365 days of happiness, love, joy, bliss, sadness, loss, grief and resignation and I am grateful that I was able to understand that everything was as it should have been, nothing more, nothing less.

I am excited for 2011! It will be a fantastic year full of excitement and beautiful surprises along the way. What will you do with 364 days to fill with exciting adventures? I have learned to take each day as a present, for tomorrow is an illusion. I know that I shall fill these days with hard work, creativity, love, joy, inspiration, learning, drawing, painting, sewing, writing, photographing, designing, baking, jumping on the bed, smiling at strangers and honoring myself.

I have an optimistic beat in my heart that this year is the year, MY year. The year that will define me and the course of my life. I am grateful for having such a blessed life and an opportunity to use all of my skills to begin making a difference in the world. Recently, I have been writing action verbs that describe my DREAM job, so far I have: Helping, Action, Service and Giving. I think these will be my four words for 2011!

What are your WORDS for 2011? What are you inspired to do this NEW YEAR? Whatever it is, do not be afraid, do not let fear paralyze you, do not let doubt or other people's opinions stand in the way of your dreams! My wish and action word for all of you would be: DO! Do what you love, do what you've always dreamed of, it is NEVER too late. Life is yours for the taking, so GO and Make 2011 the Best Year of your life!!

Wishing you a Happy New Year where you Shine as Bright as the North Star!!! Love, Peace, Joy, Abundance, Prosperity, Good Fortune, Bliss and Creativity be yours this year!

XOXO,

16 days till Christmas..and I am Grateful

Wow! Can you believe it? Only 16 days until Christmas and soon after that it will be New Year's.
This year has zoomed by leaving both good and not-so-great presents in it's path.  I am grateful for all of you, who have made this year a magical one for me. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever fathom of being an "artist", of having this type of creative outlet and be able to sell my work.  Your support means the world to me.  I have much to continue learning, there is much more room to grow and find my way, to create my own voice. All this would not be possible if it wasn't for the amazing global handmade community and sites like Etsy.com, who inspire me with their craftiness, enthusiasm, DIY-spirit and beautiful artisan crafted goods made from the heart.

Thanksgiving Ideas

Happy Thanksgiving! I am early, I know it. But with the last minute preparations and overall chaos that will descend upon us in the next days, I wanted to make sure I said it.
There is so much to be thankful for, not only this year, but in general. I am grateful for family and friends who make my  journey in this big world a lot brighter.

Here are a few ideas to make your Thanksgiving a lovely one!

TABLE DECOR AND SETTINGS

A beautiful arrangement and use of cranberries, apples, wrapped leaves and orchid accents from
designlab in Portland, Oregon.

                    via MarthaStewart.com

Fall Centerpiece

I love the simplicity of this centerpiece. A trip to the farmer's market or supermarket will yield everything you need to recreate this informal yet elegant table decor composed of squashes, bell pepper, and kumquats. If these are not in season where you are you can substitute using carrots, persimmons, oranges, and baby pumpkins or anything that catches your fancy.

 Pear Place Card

I love the fact that this is the most eco-friendly and clever place card I have seen. With the bounty of fruit available to use, you can add your own distinctive flair to the table decor. Apples, pumpkins, gourds, any beautifully colored fruit will do and each guest gets a veggie to take home and cook later.

FOR THE KIDS

DIY Thanksgiving Treat Holders - they can serve as treat holders or place cards.
I discovered this great and easy project over at
Sheek Shindigs blog!  They have loads of great DIY projects and ideas to decorate the kids table.

SWEET TREATS

I have just discovered the perfect, petite slices of heaven that are French macaroons. I continue to ask myself why I hadn't tried these before? I have yet to make them, but if you feel adventurous or have an adventurous baker in your family, these Saffron Pumpkin Macaroons via Tartelette seem like a great addition to the Thanksgiving dessert menu.

DRINKS

Dazzle your guests with a taste of Spain with Mulled White Wine Sangria cocktails! You're guest will be chanting "Ole" at first taste.

Mulled White Wine Sangria
Ingredients:

1 cup water
½ cup honey, preferably orange-blossom
Zest of 2 lemons, cut into long strips
¼ cup fresh lemon juice (from 2 lemons)

2 bottles dry white wine, such as Sauvignon Blanc
1 cup orange Muscat, such as Essencia

If I Was A Rich Girl...

Happy Friday!

I hope that you are doing great! I am currently fighting a cold which doesn't seem to be getting any better. It's been over one week already and since I am currently traveling, I am not sure when it will be completely gone.

During my downtime I have been able to look at some amazing dresses, furniture and accessories from across the pond (London and Finland) and other items that have caught my fancy.

Here is a list of them:

1. Butterfly Dress by Luly Yang.

This amazing butterfly dress is the creation of graphic designer turned couture fashion designer, Luly Yang. The fantasy dress is created out of silk, crystals and black feathers. It makes me want to take flight! If I was a rich girl, I would love to have this dress in my closet!

2.  Under The Apple Tree Canopy Bed by attiladesign

I would love to fall asleep everyday of my life on this beautiful bed. Straight out of a European fairy tale, comes this amazing woodland piece of art. This fantasy bed by attiladesign from Finland is a great find from Etsy.com

3. Manolo Blahnik Silk Scarf

Somewhere across the pond, London to be exact, that brilliant store Liberty brings every girl's dream come true: To own a pair of Blahniks'. In this case, you can own more than one pair, with Manolo Blahnik's silk scarf featuring his signature shoe sketches.

4. Vivienne Westwood Red Bus Keyring

Who doesn't want to carry their keys on this ultra fashionable Red Bus Vivienne Westwood keyring? I have a love affair with British Double Decker buses and this key ring would make a lovely stocking stuffer for the girl who has it all.

That's it for now.
May your day be bright and happy wherever you may be in this Big, Bright World!

It's Been A While...

I am sorry that I haven't posted in over a month! First, I went on vacation to visit the huge family in Central America.

When I came back, I was catching up with school, the studio, email, bills: the little things that slip away when you are sipping a cold drink in  a hammock while you watch the rain pour down relentlessly.

I had the last of my two wisdom teeth pulled out, a word to the wise: Do not take them out if you do not have to! I am still reeling in pain and can only eat on the left side of my mouth. Ahh.. food, you are such a temptation right now.

Lastly, I have the flu! It's been one week with the flu and two weeks with the wisdom tooth ordeal. How I wish I was still on vacation!!

I hope everyone had a fantastic and safe Halloween. I was all geared up in my semi-productive state, ready to give out candy to the trick-or-treaters, and sadly, no one showed up. Not one single child, I was thoroughly disappointed.

I am back at work over at Farnum Ink Studio, as much as my body will let me do for now. I hope I will be 100% by the end of the week.

Wishing you all a Fantastic day wherever you may be in this Big, Bright World!

Things I Did This Week....

Happy Wednesday!!

I have been quite a busy bee this week. With the change of seasons and autumn approaching I decided to tackle my first Autumn wreath. I purchased the items from the Dollar store (just in case it was total chaos) and here is the final product. My favorite part is the little yellow bird.

I love to bake, particularly because I am a vegan. Yesterday I made some "Happy Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies" and they were delicious, even my carnivore parents enjoyed them. Here is the recipe, even if you aren't a vegan, you should try making these, I assure you there will be only an empty plate left, no crumbs. Enjoy!!

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

2 cups unbleached flour
2 tsps baking powder
1/2 tsp.salt
cinnamon to taste (optional)
vegan chocolate or carob chips - put in as many as you like
1 cup raw sugar (turbinado #1, sucanat works too but sucks up a lot of the moisture)
1/2 cup canola or vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup water

Directions:

VERY IMPORTANT-make sure all ingredients are at room temperature. It will work if they're not at room temp but it works MUCH better if they are. Also while your oven is pre-heating put the cookie sheets you are going to use on top of the oven so they get preheated as well. Preheat oven to 350.

In a large bowl mix flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon (if you choose). Add chips. Make a well in the center and set aside.

In a medium size bowl mix vegan sugar and oil. Mix it well. Add the vanilla and then add the water. Mix it well. Add the wet to the well in the dry. Mix it well but be careful not to overwork it. Add more chips if you need to. Spoon onto ungreased cookie sheets. Put them in the oven. Bake for 5 minutes and then flip and rotate the sheets.(top to bottom, and 180 degree rotation) Bake another 4 minutes and check them.

The cookies are done when they seem a little bit softer then you want them to be. They will harden up some as they cool. I usually go in two minute increments from here untill they get to where I like them.

Take them out when they are done and move them to wire cooling racks. If they split or come apart when you try to remove them let them sit on the pan for 2 minutes before transferring them to the racks.

These cookies have come a long way, lots of time and tasting spent on getting them to where they are now. Vegans and non vegans LOVE them. In the words of my 6 year old son-Mom, you're the greatest because you know how to make the8 best cookies. Enjoy and let me know if you have questions. Sweet travels.

Serves: almost two dozen

Preparation time: 15 mins-10 to 12 cooking time

Lastly, I decided to make these eco-friendly felt flower brooches!

I am considering selling them, let me know what you think!

A Few of My Favorite things on Etsy- Part One

Hello Lovelies,

I have been away for a while now due to moving and working on my Etsy shop! So, I have had a lot of time to look through some of the great and amazing shops on Etsy and here are a few (of the many, many) favorite things!

BEAUTY

I am really loving the Cappuccino Pure Organic Mineral Eye Color by Orglamix! During the last few years i have become very careful of what I put on my body, so I prefer to use vegan make-up. Although the current cosmetic industry has not caught on to the idea of producing simple, organic makeup, I am glad that Etsy has some great quality beauty products such as this and are produced without:

- Parabens
- Sulfates
- Synthetic Fragrances
- Synthetic Dyes
- Petro-Chemicals
- Phthalates

So, check out her shop, she has 125 shades to choose from!

BATH

Krugsecologic has a great assortment of vegan soaps, moisturizers, scrubs, perfumes and other wonderful products to make you smell like roses!!

I am particularly craving the vegan "Almond Agave" Soap with a scent is super-sweet and lingers on the skin after your shower!
It look so amazing, I want to eat it!

*******************************************************************
COOKING

I love cooking and I love Indian food so it is without a doubt that I fell in love with Purposedesign's shop! She has a plethora of spice kits, tea kits and gourmet rubs and salt to cook a feast for everyone and make them happy!
My must-have item from her shop would be the Mini Indian spice kit! I can already smell the curry sauce heating in the saucepan.

********************************************************************
CLOTHING

I absolutely love these Isa Zapata Limited Edition T-shirts! They are so bright and cheerful, they will put a smile on your face. Her artwork is vivid and imaginative, great for decorating your child's room or for that matter any room in your home that needs a little pepping up!

********************************************************************

JEWELRY

Visit Dana Castle's shop and you will find gorgeous silver jewelry and bridal accessories.  I am particularly taken aback by this beautiful Silver Triple Orchid Flower necklace. It is such a unique and delicate piece, it will definitely make a statement when you wear it.
